Soil Productivity Degradation in a Long-Term Eroded Olive Orchard under Semiarid Mediterranean Conditions

چکیده
Olive groves are one of the most important agro-systems in Mediterranean basin, and Andalusia region produces highest quantity olive oil Europe. The aim this work was to evaluate long-term (15 years) influence two management practices orchards—conventional tillage (CT) no with bare soil herbicide application (NT + H)—on physical properties, infiltration capacity, erosion rates, productivity. In addition, short-term (2 cover crop (NT-CC) on these parameters also assessed. study area, CT NT H showed unsustainable values, 9.82 13.88 Mg ha−1 year−1, respectively, while NT-CC inclusion decreased rates (2.06 year−1). implementation not only reduced but caused a change trend productivity loss observed under H. sense, positive quality. However, removal led significant reduction capacity soils NT-CC, which will be serious handicap for water storage an environment continuous processes deficit.

Short-Term Response of Soil Spiders to Cover-Crop Removal in an Organic Olive Orchard in a Mediterranean Setting
This study shows that disturbance caused by cover-crop removal (CCR) in an organic olive orchard affects ground-spider populations. The effect of CCR on various organic olive-orchard plots was assessed by monitoring the abundance and diversity of ground-dwelling spiders. Covered plots in the organic olive orchard were compared with uncovered plots where the covers had been removed mechanically....
متن کاملFuture Climate Forcings and Olive Yield in a Mediterranean Orchard
The olive tree is one of the most characteristic rainfed trees in the Mediterranean region. Observed and forecasted climate modifications in this region, such as the CO2 concentration and temperature increase and the net radiation, rainfall and wind speed decrease, will likely alter vegetation water stress and modify productivity. In order to simulate how climatic change could alter soil moistu...
متن کاملNitrogen deposition alters nitrogen cycling and reduces soil carbon content in low-productivity semiarid Mediterranean ecosystems.
Anthropogenic N deposition poses a threat to European Mediterranean ecosystems. We combined data from an extant N deposition gradient (4.3-7.3 kg N ha⁻¹ yr⁻¹) from semiarid areas of Spain and a field experiment in central Spain to evaluate N deposition effects on soil fertility, function and cyanobacteria community. Soil organic N did not increase along the extant gradient. Nitrogen fixation de...
